Arriving at Baozhong Temple in Pingzhen, Taoyuan, you'll find a historically significant temple embodying profound Hakka culture and spiritual beliefs. Imagine the bustling square in the early hours of the morning, filled with residents exercising, breathing in the fresh air, and brimming with energy. Along the roads, vendors gather, selling various snacks and goods, creating a brief but lively market that feels like stepping into a traditional night market, full of warmth and community. Pingzhen District hosts numerous events annually, and this is an excellent starting point! For example, the Old Street Creek Walk starts from Baozhong Temple, allowing participants to enjoy the scenery along the way, exercising and socializing. Legislator Lu Yuling also frequently holds events here, connecting with the residents, always creating a warm and joyful atmosphere. Entering the temple grounds, you'll find several pavilions and a green garden, popular spots for worshippers to rest, chat, and stroll. Originally, this was the Yimin Pavilion, established after the Lin Shuangwen incident to commemorate those who sacrificed their lives for their homeland. In the late Qing Dynasty, the Guo family from Zhangzhou and the Lin family from Banqiao funded its reconstruction. The main deity was briefly changed to the Kai Zhang Sheng Wang (King of Zhangzhou), but today it is a branch temple of the Baozhongting Yimin Temple in Xinpu Township, dedicated to the Yimin Lord and protected by other deities. Notably, this temple boasts the largest and best-preserved collection of Qisi (a type of ancient Chinese pottery) in Taiwan. The exquisite pottery sculptures are lifelike and worth appreciating! Located opposite Lianxin Hospital, it is an important stronghold for the Hakka people's faith. A spacious parking lot in front of the temple is very convenient; the pavilion garden behind the temple is a relaxing spot. The annual Yimin Festival is a lively affair with rich rituals and activities, attracting many participants. Next door is the Yimin Community Recreation Area, offering a complete community life. Visiting Baozhong Temple is not just about praying for blessings; it's also about experiencing the pulse of Pingzhen and its historical charm.
